Why You Should Attend This Symposium:

The US Government continues to face insider threats, data breaches, and unauthorized disclosures. When trusted insiders disclose sensitive information to the public or adversaries, they degrade and disrupt our ability to conduct intelligence missions and can put many people at risk. Often, insider threats are perpetuated by unknowing and unwitting employees, rather than those with malignant intentions. Regardless of the motivations, the consequences of Insider Threat can be catastrophic.

COVID 19’s sudden and dramatic impact on the workforce creates a significant challenge for those involved in countering insider threats. Employees are now more likely to be working outside of a controlled environment, making monitoring and support even more difficult. This once-in-a-generation pandemic has increased stressors on the workforce that in turn increase the likelihood of becoming an insider threat.

Government agencies have struggled with combatting this threat and investing sufficiently into InT programs. Insider threat is a complex challenge due to its ever-evolving nature. Organizations must look at behavioral, financial, and cultural indicators, in addition to implementing data security measures. Successful programs require a blend of educational and analytic capabilities to be effective.

Speakers from the IC, DoD, DOJ, industry, and academia will discuss the obstacles in developing operational insider threat programs and examine the ways in which private-public collaboration can mutually solve many of the challenges faced by both sectors. Furthermore, discussions will highlight the technological advancements and tools which support the detection of threats and advance the accurate risk analysis of behavioral, economic, and cultural indicators.
